La Domaine de la Fontaine
If you're looking for a house to rent, La Domaine de la Fontaine offers great accommodation, in a beautiful village bordering the Canal du Midi. Recently converted from part of an old vigneron’s house in the sleepy village of Poilhes, it provides the perfect setting for a self catering holiday. The building, which dates back 300 years, has been tastefully renovated to include all the modern conveniences, while retaining many original features. The house is entered via iron gates into a courtyard, which has been planted with typical Mediterranean plants. From the entrance hall, on the left is the dining room, containing a large table and a large wood-burning stove. Next to this is the modern, well-equipped kitchen which contains a gas cooker, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. There is also a small utility room on the ground floor, with a washing machine.
On the right-hand side of the hall is the living room. This has been furnished with a comfortable sofa, easy chairs, a writing desk and there is a large number of books, perfect poolside reading. There is a television with satellite receiver and a DVD player, as well as a stereo system with CD, tape deck and radio. French windows lead you to the outside, where a wide stone staircase takes you to the swimming pool (7.5 metres by 3.5 metres) and terrace with BBQ, sun loungers and garden furniture. To the right of the French windows is a sunken patio area, which is an ideal spot to take breakfast.
The comfortable bedrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors of the house, each with en-suite bathrooms.
You will need a car to investigate the area, and to do shopping. The nearest supermarket is only 5 minutes down the road at Capestang, where there are also street markets on Wednesdays and Sundays. Poilhes is ideally situated for visits to Beziers and Narbonne; there are many historical sites to visit; and beaches are only 20 minutes drive away. There are two good restaurants in Poilhes if you don’t feel like cooking!!
